Years ago, I was talking with a colleague about traveling, exploring, and even living in different places. I shared some of the experiences I dreamed of having, and she said something that has stayed with me ever since:
“Oh, honey, don’t wait until you’re old like me. Don’t wait for the perfect time. You create the perfect time.”
She told me this with a mixture of warmth and regret. She had postponed so many experiences, thinking she’d wait until the timing was right, until life was “settled.” But as time passed, those moments slipped away, leaving her wishing she had started sooner.
Her words hit me hard. I realized how often I, too, found myself waiting — for the right budget, the right schedule, or the “perfect” moment. But the truth is, moments pass. Opportunities fade. That “next time” we promise ourselves may never come.
Since then, I’ve tried to live differently. When something calls to me — a place I want to visit, an experience I want to have — I make the plan and go. I remind myself that life is too short for “what ifs.” Money can always be earned, but momentum, experiences, and the feeling of truly living can slip away if I hesitate.
It’s a lesson that blends perfectly with another piece of wisdom I’ve always cherished: do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Combine that with creating the perfect time, and it becomes a simple, powerful mantra:
Create the perfect time for the life you want… with what you have, while you can.
Life won’t wait. Your dreams don’t have to either. Start planning, start experiencing, and start living fully today. Don’t let “someday” slip away. Make your moment now.
