365 Days of Gratitude: I am GRATEFUL for the gift of singing.

Life is a song and love is its music.

Last night I attended a graduation of a family member who graduated with honors and we celebrated the night with a traditional Filipino dinner (salu-salo) at a karaoke restaurant. Everybody enjoyed the excellent food and we’re all happy to be celebrating such an achievement.  There were people singing at the restaurant and my sweetie kept telling me that I should sing too. I was hesitant at first but then decided to do it anyway 🙂 . Although I’ve sung in front of many people before, I still get very nervous but I try my best to keep my composure and focus to singing. I’m always grateful that people who have heard me sing have expressed to me how much they’ve enjoyed listening to me sing and at times request that I sing more. I get really shy when I get compliments but I am grateful for it. I really do love music and love singing and that’s one of the things I am grateful for from my parents as they are both professional musicians and singers. They both started performing at an early age and used to be in a band together. They were based in Japan for many years then they got offered a contract to come to the US but my mother wasn’t able to go because she was pregnant with me at the time. So my father ended up going to the US and my mother later went to Japan with another band and the rest is history.  When I just came to the US my father had asked me to join their band. I initially refused because I just moved to the US and was still adjusting with the culture and my surroundings. I know my father was disappointed at first but after a year I decided to join them. I sang a few songs and did mostly backup. I had a lot of fun although I always get super nervous performing in front of many people. I’ll never forget the very first time I sang in front of the public when I attended a vacation bible school when I was eight years old. My hands were shaking the entire time. I don’t know how I got through it but I pulled through. 🙂 The song I sang at the time was Always by Atlantic Starr. I used to hear that on the radio all the time and I just really love the song and would always sing-along with it. To this day it is one of my favorite songs. 🙂
