My Year in Review: Top 10 Moments of 2010

Since I haven’t blogged for about a month now and this has been sitting in my “drafts” for almost 2 months :), I think it’s about time that I finally post my blog about my TOP 10 MOMENTS of 2010 πŸ™‚

10. Made my very first sale of cupcakes.

I was so excited when my friend Regan ordered cupcakes for their Halloween Potluck at work! I was a little nervous as it was my first official cupcake order but the feedback was awesome. Everybody loved that cupcake! πŸ™‚

9. Made a birthday and baby shower cake.

I’ve always wanted to bake a birthday cake for someone since I started baking and boy I got my wish plus a bonus! My friend Joan asked if I would make her daughter’s 1st birthday cake and my answer was definitely YES! I was so stoke about it and in addition to that I get to make a baby shower cake for a family member too! The interesting part is that both events were scheduled at the same time! Can you imagine the coincidence?! Anyway, it was exciting and challenging but I managed to pull it off…of course with my super awesome fiance’s help! πŸ™‚ All the hard work paid off as everybody loved both cakes!

8. Launched geekChic Web, Print and Graphic Design.

This is my baby! My pride and joy! Aside from photography of course! I’ve been working on this for almost a year before finally making it official! I had to build my portfolio and made sure that I have a variety of web, print and graphic designs to choose from. I continue to create more designs and I try to come up with unique ones as much as possible. πŸ™‚

7. First family photo shoot.

I will never forget my first family photo shoot. I was very nervous that day and was worried that I can’t pull it off but thank God I did it! I’m glad my fiance was there with me the whole time that I was doing the shoot.Β  He helped out with the little kids and his supportΒ  and words of encouragement definitely made me feel more at ease! The photos came out great and the family loved it πŸ™‚ Sarah cried after seeing the photos and said that I was able to capture their priceless moments. That is the BEST reward from anyone…the APPRECIATION…which serves as my INSPIRATION!

6. Held a newborn baby and was able to put her to sleep.

This is a milestone moment for me. I couldn’t wait to see baby Cerrah Soujyu and I was SO excited when I got to hold her for the first time. I was SO nervous at first and wasn’t sure how to hold her as that was my first time to hold a newborn. She’s SO adorable and the best part was when she fell asleep in my arms. So precious!

5. Spending quality time with my family.

It took almost 2 years before I got to see my family again and I’m SO glad that I gotΒ  to spend some quality time with them. Hangin’ out in Boston was a lot of fun and for the first time I got to watch a boxing fight with my family and it’s not just some fight, it was the Pacquiao-Margarito fight! πŸ™‚ Pacquiao totally ROCKS!

4. Speaking to my Grandmother.

It’s been a while since I last spoke to my Grandmother and I am SO HAPPY that I finally got to talk to her again! Thanks to my cousin, Ate Neng who made this possible! Although my Grandma had a hard time hearing me, it was still nice to hear her voice and to know that she still remembers me and thinks of me often. I miss her a lot. She kept telling me over the phone that she’s getting really old and that a psychic once told her that she’s only going to live up to 90 years old. I don’t want my Grandma to think that way and I told her that she’s going to live for many more years and to ignore what the psychic said. I just don’t want my Grandma to worry about those kind of things. She is now 89 years old, couldn’t hear well without her hearing aid and has to walk with a cane but I know that God is watching over her and she’ll have many more birthdays to celebrate.

3. Meeting and assisting

the master wedding videographer Jason Magbanua

I’ve been a fan of Jason Magbanua for the last 6 years and his work is just exceptional. Noel and I watched his videos ALL THE TIME and we couldn’t get enough of it! Watching his video is like watching a scene from a really good movie! Watching it once is not enough! It’s mesmerizing! We admire this guy and look up to him. We hoped that someday we’ll get that chance to meet him and actually witness how he does his magic πŸ™‚ So last summer our dream of meeting one of the people that we admire the most came true! Thanks to Facebook for making all this happen! You can check out the story here!

2. Meeting APOLO ANTON OHNO, my favorite Winter Olympian

I’ve been a fan of Apolo for the last 10 years and I missed my chance of meeting him 5 years ago because I backed out last minute when Noel and I were gonna go see him in LA back when we were just friends πŸ™‚ So when he released his book and announced that he’s doing a book tour I was hoping that he would come to the West Coast too and I’m so glad that he did!!! These photos were taken at Barnes & Noble Escondido at his book signing the weekend of Thanksgiving πŸ™‚ I was so stoked to see him and was able to ask him a question! πŸ˜€ He’s such a warm person and VERY handsome! Hahaha! Definitely a dream come true! πŸ˜€ I highly recommend his book! It’s very inspiring!

1. Getting engaged

Absolutely the biggest surprise of 2010 for me and the BEST! πŸ™‚ It was totally unexpected and I was speechless for the first time in my life and when I finally said something I said NO instead of YES! Hahahaha! But I wasn’t saying no to his proposal, I was caught up in the moment and what I meant by saying no was ” No, you didn’t! Am I dreaming? Is this for real? “ kind of no! Hahahaha! I feel so blessed to have found someone who is not just my partner and bestfriend but also my soulmate πŸ™‚ He truly made that day unforgettable and special for both of us!

  1. gosh, where to start? first, congratulations on your engagement. Your ring is gorgeous! second, your cupcakes and cake are so cute/great! I am not the best baker. I watch all of those cupcake and cake shows and am just in envy. Third, I’m happy for you that you were able to spend time with your family and your grandmother. It’s hard when they are far away from us and each little bit of time we do get to be with them should be treasured, because life is such a gift. Fourth, congratulations again for your business adventure! I wish you much success. Fifth, I love your family photo shoot. I hope one day to get my photography skills to such a level that others want me to do photo shoots for them. Lots of good stuff for you to celebrate! Wishing you the same happiness and success for 2011!

    1. Thank you very much Stacey!!! Thank you for your kind words πŸ™‚ I try my best to make the most out of life. It’s a journey full of trials and tribulations but we must live it full of hope and enthusiasm. I hope my web design and photography gig will really take off. It’s a slow start but I’m glad that I’m getting some response. I’m sure you’re photography skills will get to the level that you want to be and it’s a continuous learning process plus it’s FULL of fun! I’ve asked some advice from really great photographers that are well established and all of them said the same thing to me…practice…practice…practice and follow your heart πŸ™‚

Wishing you happiness and success for 2011 as well! Take care!
