Personally, I consider cats to be the best pets. They’re quiet (well, most of the time—ours has her moments!), independent, and affectionate… on their own terms, of course. That totally applies to our cat. They’re great for indoor living, litter trained, and don’t need to be taken outside for walks or bathroom breaks. The independence and low maintenance of owning a cat is a big plus for me.
On a personal note, I’ve also found that having a cat helps with my anxiety and OCD. Their calming presence and soft purring create a soothing atmosphere, and it’s comforting knowing she’s always nearby. The routine of caring for her brings a sense of stability and helps ease some of the compulsive thoughts. I’ll talk more about my experience with OCD in another post, but for now, I can say that having a cat has been a real source of comfort for me.
Having owned two dogs in the past, I can appreciate the different dynamic. Where I grew up, our dogs were pretty independent too. They roamed freely, did their “business” on their own, and came home for meals and to sleep at night. It’s a very different kind of pet experience, and I’ve appreciated both—but these days, our cat’s easygoing nature just fits our lifestyle better.
