Where did your name come from?
My name is Edelweiss and I was named after the song Edelweiss from the Sound of Music. My parents are both musicians, so that’s the story behind my song-infused name. ๐
Aside from my name being a song. It is also a combination of German words with “edel” meaning noble or precious, and “weiร” meaning white.
Edelweiss is also a small, white flower that grows in the Alps, a mountain range in Europe. It’s known for its distinctive appearance and is often associated with mountainous regions. People sometimes consider it a symbol of rugged beauty and perseverance due to its ability to thrive in harsh conditions at high altitudes.
Sometimes I have a love-hate relationship with my name. Hahaha! That’s because it gets butchered all the time! Most people don’t know how to pronounce it and I always felt funny correcting someone. I honestly can count on one hand the number of times my name was said right and a few times they even sang the song for me. ๐ I’m often mistaken as German and people find it interesting that I have a Spanish last name. Then when they see me in person, I’m often mistaken as Vietnamese or Korean but my nationality is neither. ๐คฃ I remember at my previous job where my boss was completely shocked when she saw me for the first time for my job interview and I looked nothing like German. She was so surprised and we laughed about it. By the way, she’s German. ๐ I’ll never forget that day and I was also hired on the spot. She said she didn’t need to interview me.
Looking back, that day was a treasure trove of surprises and happiness. A memory that always brings a smile to my face and a heart full of gratitude. Grateful that my father gave me the gift of a name that’s as unique and unforgettable as, well, an Edelweiss flower. It’s a name that comes with a side of mystery, a dash of culture, and a whole lot of laughs. ๐

Hired on the spot sounds pretty nice! Sometimes itโs quite fun to see how peopleโs surname relate to their background!
