Daily Prompt: Ready, Set, Done!

As it’s been a while since our last free-write… set a timer for ten minutes. Write without pause (and no edits!) until you’re out of time. Then, publish what you have (it’s your call whether or not to give the post a once-over).

MINIMALISM that’s what I’ve been thinking about more lately. It’s something that I’ve been working on for the last few years and more so this past year. I have way too much clothes and shoes. Every now and then I used to give away clothes and shoes that I haven’t used in a while. It’s a great way to have more room in your closet and you make others happy too at the same time but my problem was I still kept buying clothes and shoes that I don’t really need. A few years ago when I’ve put on some weight, I bought new clothes instead of working out to lose the unwanted weight. After almost a year of justifying buying new clothes because of my added pounds I decided to do the right thing by exercising and eating healthier. I don’t exercise religiously but I do make the effort and I am a lot more conscious now with the food that I eat.

When I look at my closet now, I have all these clothes of different sizes ranging from size XXS to a size 8. I still can’t believe I wore a size 8 at one point when I was wearing either a size 0 or 2 for the longest time. That was the heaviest I’ve been in my entire life and not ideal for someone who isn’t tall. For the past year, I’ve gone through my clothes at least three times. I’ve donated a lot of it and gave away some to relatives but I still have a lot left. I honestly don’t have a room for it and a lot of those clothes are sitting in a plastic bin cluttering my bedroom. Yes, it’s folded neatly inside those bins but who likes to see 10 bins full of clothes in their bedroom because it doesn’t fit in the closet? No one! I sure don’t and I’m getting sick and tired of looking at it so I am going to get rid of it before the end of the year.

Shoes is another issue for me. I have way too many shoes. I’ve always loved shoes since I was little and have been called Imelda Marcos because of that. Now, I’ve donated a lot of shoes too within the past year but I need to go through it again. I will also try to sell some of my clothes and shoes because some are still new with tags and most were used only once or twice. Sometimes I even find things that I don’t remember buying or owning. Whether I like to admit it or not, I was a shopaholic but I’ve taken steps to change that and I’ve been really good with my shopping habits this past year. Now I just need to work on my goal of becoming a minimalist. I’ve been making a conscious effort to remind myself of what I really need versus my wants and so far it’s been working :). I know I’m nowhere near my goal but I’m one step closer 😉 and I hope that by the end of the year I’m halfway there. 🙂
