Congrats! You’re the owner of a new time machine. The catch? It comes in two models, each traveling one way only: the past OR the future. Which do you choose, and why?

I paused for a moment after reading this prompt to think of what I would actually do if I were the owner of a new time machine. Should I go back to the past or move forward to the future? If I were to go back to the past, I would have to opportunity to change some things in my life. I will have the chance to make better choices and  correct the mistakes that I’ve made but then again doing that also means that my life would completely change. The life I currently live wouldn’t be the same. The people I’ve met along the way would be complete strangers to me and vice versa. I would’ve graduated with a different degree, went to a different school, etc…etc. Everything would be so different in my life including myself. Don’t get me wrong, I like who I was then and who I am now but like everybody else, the challenges that we go though in life changes who we are and I truly believe that it’s always for the better. One thing that I am really proud of about myself is learning to speak up and express my feelings especially to the people who needed to hear it the most. I know that I am still a work in progress but I have come a long way from that person who used to bottle up everything inside and pretends that all is fine and dandy but deep down hurting and secretly crying at night while pouring her heart out in her diary. I can’t help but get emotional when I recall those days but I am also grateful for it for I wouldn’t be the person that I am now if not for those trying moments in my life. So, if I were to choose between going back to the past or the future…I’d choose the future because the past is the past. It’s meant to stay there. Everything that we went through in our past happened for a reason. It was meant to teach us something. It was meant to help us grow. It was meant to help mold us to become a better version of ourselves so we are equipped to face the future as a stronger and better individuals.
