If aliens arrived tomorrow, the very first thing I’d ask would probably be, “Why are you here?”
Then I’d want to know, “What makes you think Earth is worth visiting?” Out of all the places in the universe, why us? What did they see or learn about our planet that made them want to come here?
Of course, I’d also want to know if they had any intention of staying. And if they did, what would that mean for us? Would they help make our lives better? Would they share knowledge or technology that could help humanity solve some of the problems we’ve struggled with for generations? And if they had the ability to help but chose not to, I’d definitely want to know why.
But realistically, if aliens suddenly showed up in front of me, I would probably freak out first. 😂 I can already imagine myself hoping I don’t pass out. And if I were still able to get any words out of my mouth, that’s when all of those questions would start coming.
If given the option, though, I would definitely prefer to have that conversation from a distance. 😂 You just never know. An encounter like that could be terrifying, or it could turn out to be one of the most interesting and educational experiences imaginable.
Then again, who really knows what an alien would even look like? Most of what we picture comes from movies, television, books, stories, and now everything we see online. Maybe they would look completely different from anything we’ve imagined. Maybe they could even look just like us. Who knows?
It’s funny, though, because the word “alien” has more than one meaning in my head now.
As a BTS ARMY, whenever I hear or read the word aliens, one of the first things that pops into my mind now is BTS’s song “Aliens.” So there’s that meaning for me too.
And as someone who immigrated to another country, the word alien also has another layer. It has long been used to describe someone who is foreign to a country or isn’t a citizen there. So depending on the context, “alien” can make me think of extraterrestrials, immigration, or BTS. 😂 Three completely different meanings for one little word.
But if we’re talking about actual extraterrestrials standing in front of me? Fear would probably be my first reaction simply because I’d be encountering something completely unfamiliar.
Knowing myself, though, that fear would eventually be followed by curiosity.
Because as scared as I might be, I’d still have about a thousand questions I’d want answered.
