Where will you find an ice skating rink right by the beach? Only in California! 😉 Hotel Del’s Skating by the Sea is also something that I look forward to every holidays in addition to the Festival of Lights. Whether I’m gliding along the ice or just people watching, I always have fun and find it entertaining. You’ll see families with their little kids or teens, couples and even grandparents although just a few of the latter.
Then when you’re tired from ice skating and need to warm up, there’s a hot beverage booth located just a few steps from the rink. Also within steps are restaurants and a bar. There are also variety of shops inside the hotel in case you need to buy a gift for someone or for yourself ;). Oh and I can’t forget my favorites, the ice cream shop and the wine room. My friends and I actually hosted one of our friends bachelorette’s dinner at the Eno Wine Room after a day pampering at the Spa at the Del. Oh and that too, they have a spa on site and it’s lovely! 🙂
I think Hotel del Coronado’s idea of building and opening an ice skating rink every holiday is absolutely brilliant. Although it’s a little pricey in my opinion ($25/90 minutes and based on capacity), people don’t seem to mind it because they are all having a great time making memories with their loved ones. That’s what matters after all, right? 😉
If you happen to be visiting San Diego these holidays, make sure to swing by at The Del in Coronado. Aside from the fun things that you can do at the beach or ice skating, Hotel Del is also rich in history. According to Wikipedia, it is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States (after the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon) and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977 and a California Historical Landmark in 1970.
So don’t forget to check out The Del when visiting SoCal to learn more about its history. Who knows you might even meet Kate Morgan, the hotel’s most famous ghost resident. 😀

Omg, I LOVE the Del! I didn’t know they did this!
Isn’t it cool! I’m not sure how long exactly they’ve been doing that but I first went in 2006. 🙂
By the way, thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend ahead! 🙂
Great pictures 🙂
Thanks so much!! I appreciate it! 🙂
