We may not live in the Midwest anymore, but Lake Geneva remains one of our favorite places in the world. It’s a spot that will always be special to us because it’s where so many of our “firsts” are anchored. Looking back at these photos feels like flipping through the chapters of our lives, and even though we’ve moved on to a new horizon, this beautiful corner of Wisconsin holds a piece of our history.
I still remember the very beginning—my husband and me, newly exploring Wisconsin together, wide-eyed and excited about everything. Then there were the quiet “in-between” moments; those spontaneous drives after work just to catch the sunset on the pier and breathe. There is something so grounding about the way the light hits the water and the Lake Geneva Cruise Line boats glide by.
The most precious memory, though, was our first big milestone after our daughter was born. We went back to celebrate her first month of life, which also happened to be my very first birthday as a mama. Standing on those docks with her in my arms, I realized that our favorite places grow right along with us.
I truly believe this area is underrated. It’s a place where history meets natural beauty, and even from a distance, those views remain so vivid in my mind. For Wanderlust Wednesday, I’m looking back at the place that holds my heart. It’s underrated, it’s beautiful, and it’s home.
Distance doesn’t change the way a place makes you feel. Is there a spot you’ve moved away from that still feels like “home” to you? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments.
