How I Practice Self-Care in Real and Meaningful Ways

How do you practice self-care?

Self-care for me isn’t just something I do because it sounds good or because it’s trendy — it’s been a real lifeline. Living with anxiety and OCD for so many years, I’ve had to figure out what actually helps me feel calm and steady. For me, self-care is a mix of small, meaningful things that help me breathe, create, and be kind to myself.

Writing is huge. Whether it’s jotting down quotes, poems, or just whatever’s on my mind, writing helps me sort through feelings and quiet my racing thoughts. When life feels overwhelming, putting words down is like having a conversation with myself that brings clarity and peace.

Creativity is another big part of how I take care of myself. I love photography, videography, creating reels, and blogging — these let me express parts of me that words alone sometimes can’t. It’s freeing, it’s fun, and it reminds me I have something unique to share. Plus, when others connect with what I create, it feels really good.

I’m also intentional about mindset — keeping up with affirmations and reminding myself that growth takes time. Being gentle with myself when things get tough makes a bigger difference than I ever expected. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about showing up and trying my best.

Taking care of my body fits into this too. I keep my skincare simple and nourishing because those little routines make me feel good in my skin. I rest when I need it and move gently when I can — listening to my body without pressure.

As a mom, balancing my time is a challenge, but I’ve learned to grab moments when my daughter’s at school to write or just breathe. It’s how I refill my cup so I can be present for her and myself.

This is what self-care looks like for me right now — creative, intentional, and real. I hope something in this resonates with you, and maybe encourages you to show yourself a little more kindness too. ❤️
