There are people in our lives who leave a mark so deep that even time cannot fade their influence. For me, that person was my grandmother. She was more than just family—she was my greatest teacher, my source of strength, and the person whose love and wisdom continue to guide me through every season of life.
I often think about the way she carried herself, always with grace and humility, even in the face of life’s toughest challenges. She loved fiercely and selflessly—not just her children and grandchildren, but also her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She had this way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. She was always there for me, even when I was figuring things out in my own way, with open arms and unwavering support.
Her love didn’t stop with family—she extended that same kindness to those outside our circle as well. Whether it was a neighbor in need or a stranger who needed a helping hand, my grandmother’s heart was big enough for everyone.
Now, as a mother, I find myself drawing strength from the lessons she unknowingly taught me. I catch glimpses of her in the way I nurture my daughter, in the way I face adversity, and in the way I choose kindness even when it’s not the easiest path. When life gets tough, I ask myself, How would my grandmother have handled this? And more often than not, the answer reminds me to stay strong, to trust in God, and to believe that things will work out for the best.
One of my greatest wishes is that my grandmother could have met my daughter. I know she would have adored her, showering her with love and wisdom just as she did with me. While that meeting never came to be, I keep my grandmother’s spirit alive through the stories I share. I tell my daughter about the woman who shaped so much of who I am, and in doing so, I hope she carries a piece of her great-grandmother’s love within her.
Life has a unique way of teaching us, often through the challenges and experiences we least expect. The lessons I’ve learned—both from my grandmother and from the experiences that have tested me—have shown me the power of resilience, faith, and love. And though she may not physically be here, I feel her presence in every challenge I overcome, in every moment of grace I extend, and in the deep, unconditional love I pour into my own family.
Her legacy lives on, not just in memory, but in the way I choose to live.
