Daily Prompt: Family, Food and Fond Memories

How do you celebrate holidays?

Since childhood,  holidays have always had a special place in my heart. They remind me of my fondest memories spent with my grandparents, my youngest aunt, and some cousins. Then as I got older and moved somewhere far from home,  most holidays were spent with friends and in-laws. But now that I have a family of my own and we moved back home, I spend the holidays with my own family and family nearby.

Holidays for me are synonymous with food. Especially when I was growing up in the Philippines. Filipinos are known for their delicious food. I miss Pinoy food so much, most especially my Grandma’s cooking. She’s the best and can cook anything! One way I honor her memory is by preparing some of the dishes she used to make. It’s also one of my ways of sharing stories to my daughter about my grandma so she can get to know her at least even from my memories.

Celebrating the holidays also means more family time where we can just take it easy and relax. Luckily my husband works for a company that values family time and gives them the entire week from Christmas Eve to the day after the New Year off. It’s really wonderful especially when you have a little one. I also think that it’s good for employee morale as it will give them time to relax, unwind and start fresh for the New Year.

I guess to put it simply, I celebrate the holidays in a more relaxed setting,  soaking in every moment that I get to spend time with family doing simple things that create lasting memories. 😊
