What I Would Do If I Won the Lottery

Daily writing prompt
What would you do if you won the lottery?

First things first, I’d hire an accountant to help me manage my suddenly overblown assets—especially compared to what I have now. I’d put everything into a trust. My top priority would be securing my daughter’s future, particularly her education. I want to make sure all her educational needs are covered, set aside a budget for her school allowance, and allocate a specific amount for her long-term savings.

I’d pay off any debts we have and invest a good portion into tech and defense contracts.

Then… travel. Travel and travel some more. Hahaha.
I truly love exploring. I’d visit every place on my bucket list and discover new ones along the way. I want to enjoy life and explore while I can—collecting experiences, memories, and stories—before eventually settling down somewhere.

I’d buy a house near the beach and another in the city, which we could rent out whenever we’re not there.

I’d also open a cat café and a rescue dedicated to our fur baby. Helping animals has always been close to my heart. At one point, I imagined combining this with an art space—where people could enjoy art while visiting the cats—but realistically, curious paws and precious artwork might not mix very well. So having separate spaces might be the better idea.

I would absolutely continue pursuing my love for the arts. Creating has always been part of who I am, and I dream of opening a gallery someday—a place where my photography, drawings, digital art, and writing could be displayed. I’d love for my daughter’s work to be featured there too. She is incredibly creative—she loves drawing, inventing, and building ideas into little prototypes. I’m not just being biased; she truly has a gift for creating.

I’d also want my husband’s photography and drawings displayed. He rarely shares his work, but I genuinely believe it deserves to be seen. This gallery wouldn’t just be about showcasing art—it would be a space rooted in encouragement, expression, and creative freedom, open to others who wish to share their work as well.

I’ve also dreamed of opening a café of my own—one where I could sell the cupcakes, muffins, cookies, and snacks I love making. It would be a warm, welcoming place for people to gather, eat, celebrate, and simply enjoy being together. On certain days, my father—who is a musician—could play there if he wanted to. He’s in his 70s now, but back in the day he had a band that was quite popular. Music has always been a big part of our family. It’s how my parents met—my mother was a professional singer, and my father was a guitarist and singer in the band. His singing is what brought him to America, and my mother to Japan.

I imagine this café also doubling as a karaoke café—where people could sing, laugh, hang out, or celebrate special occasions. More than a business, it would be a place filled with music, stories, and shared joy.

Another dream of mine is to help families who want to send their children to college but aren’t financially able. I’d set up a foundation to provide scholarships for students who need support to further their education. This foundation would be dedicated to my grandparents, who inspired me in so many ways—especially through their love for helping people. They were two of the most generous individuals I’ve had the privilege of knowing. Their generosity wasn’t limited to money; they gave their time, their presence, and their belief in others. Growing up, I witnessed them help people pursue their education—not only financially, but emotionally—by encouraging them and showing them that someone truly believed in them. Seeing this shaped me deeply, and I’ve admired their kindness and generosity ever since.

I would also make one of my mother’s dreams come true. She has always wanted to open a resort—a place where people could enjoy the beach or relax by the pool. If I were given the blessing of winning the lottery, I would make that dream a reality. I know it would make her happy, and I believe it would also honor my grandmother and aunt, who both loved celebrating birthdays at resorts. Some of my most cherished childhood memories are of beach outings with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins—celebrating both my grandmother’s birthday and mine. Those days were filled with laughter, togetherness, and a deep sense of belonging. Creating a place like this would be a beautiful way to honor those memories, celebrate family, and keep their love and joy alive.

Last—but definitely not least—I’d surprise my closest family and friends with a gift that keeps on giving.

I know there are many other things I’d want to do with that kind of blessing, but these are the ones at the top of my head right now.

Oh… and of course, if possible, I’d hire BTS and host a free concert for ARMYs who’ve never had the chance to attend one before. 💜
