Thankful Tuesday: A Moment I’ll Treasure Forever

This past week, I had the opportunity to be a mystery reader in my daughter’s class—and it turned into one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had in a long time.

Since the start of the school year, she’s been asking me if I could be the mystery reader. And I wanted to—so much—but I was also terrified. I’m naturally shy, and the thought of reading in front of a room full of children had my nerves in knots for weeks. Still, I said yes. Not because I was ready, but because I wanted to show up for her. And I’m so glad I did.

What made it even more special was that my husband joined me. He wasn’t scheduled to read, but our daughter’s amazing teacher allowed us both to go in together to surprise her on her birthday. It was a moment I’ll never forget. As soon as we walked into the classroom, she ran toward us, arms wide open, and gave us each the biggest hug. Her smile was glowing—pure joy. That alone made everything worth it.

Watching my husband read with so much animation and joy, seeing the kids laugh and engage, and hearing one of them shout, “Best book ever!” was so heartwarming. He’s always been such a natural with kids, and I loved just soaking in the moment.

And me? I was shaking inside, but I did it. I even improvised two lines in the book out of nerves—oops! But I read, I smiled, and I showed up. I did something I didn’t think I could do, and I grew because of it.

So this Thankful Tuesday, I’m grateful for:

The opportunity to be part of a moment my daughter had been hoping for.

A chance to push past fear and grow.

The love and encouragement of my husband, who always believes in me—especially when I start doubting myself.

And most of all, for the unforgettable smile on our daughter’s face—a moment I’ll carry in my heart forever.

Sometimes, the simplest things turn out to be the ones that change us the most.
