How My High School Interests Shaped Who I Am Now

Daily writing prompt
Describe something you learned in high school.

It’s wild how sometimes the things we learned way back—things we didn’t think too much about—end up becoming such a big part of who we are. When I think about my high school years, I realize that the things I loved then are the same things I still carry with me now. They quietly shaped me, even when I didn’t know it.

One of my favorite classes was computer class. I learned how to use Lotus 123 and WordStar, which now feel like ancient tools, but at the time, it was all so new and exciting. I remember making greeting cards and banners, just having so much fun creating anything I could. Looking back, that class planted the seed for my love of design and creativity using technology. These days, I find myself doing the same thing—making video montages, reels, and visual stories that blend emotion and information. Who knew those early projects in class would turn into something I’d still be passionate about?

Then there was history. Oh, how I loved history. I was so drawn to learning about different cultures, traditions, and how people lived in different times and places. It wasn’t just about facts or timelines for me—it was about connecting to something deeper. That curiosity ended up fueling my love for travel. Even now, whenever I explore a new place, I want to know the story behind it. I find so much joy in sharing those stories too, whether it’s through fun facts, “did you know” moments, or thoughtful captions in my reels. There’s just something magical about making history feel alive.

And of course, there’s writing—my forever love. Even back in elementary school, writing homework or projects would get me genuinely excited. It’s always been where I feel most comfortable expressing myself. Whether I was journaling, writing stories, or putting together thoughtful essays in high school, I found peace in words. That love never really left—it’s just been quietly growing with me over the years. Writing has become one of my favorite ways to connect with people and share what’s in my heart. Whether I’m posting a quote, writing a blog post, or piecing together poetry, it just feels right. It feels like home.

When I really sit with it, I can see how all these pieces—tech, history, writing—have been with me all along. I’ve been creating travel reels filled with historical gems and fun facts, using my own photos and videos. I’ve been blending creativity, storytelling, and education in a way that feels so me. It’s just now that I’m seeing how it all ties together—and honestly, that realization feels really special.

High school gave me more than just memories or lessons—it gave me early glimpses of who I was becoming. And it feels good to honor that now.
