Thankful Tuesday: A Grandparent’s Love

There are some memories that stay with us forever, and for me, the warmest and most treasured memories are the ones I shared with my beloved grandparents. My grandparents were a source of unwavering love, care, and the creators of a beautiful morning routine that I will forever be grateful for. This blog post is a tribute to those cherished moments when my grandmother’s breakfast and my grandfather’s schooltime surprises filled my heart with warmth and security.

Every morning as a child, I would wake up to the comforting aroma of my grandmother’s cooking. She had a special way of making breakfast that made every day feel like a special occasion. The love she poured into her cooking was evident in every dish she prepared, and she knew exactly what my favorite foods were. From my favorite tocino (sweetened and cured pork belly) to skinless longanisa (Filipino sweet sausage without the casing) and “one-eye” (that’s what I called sunny-side up when I was a kid 😁), my grandmother’s breakfasts were nothing short of a feast to start the day.

But her love didn’t stop at breakfast. I remember how she prepared a warm bath for me every morning. She’d make sure the water was just the right temperature, and that small act of care made me feel so loved and cherished. It was the perfect start to a day of learning and adventure. πŸ₯°

In the first grade, I was a shy and nervous little kid, as most of us are at that age. It was during this time that my grandfather, a man of great kindness and patience, stepped in to make my school mornings even more special. My Grandpa and I would take a walk to my school every morning. Now and then we would ride a tricycle. A tricycle is a motorized vehicle with three wheels, consisting of a motorcycle at the front and a sidecar attached to the side, often used for carrying passengers and goods.

The part that touched me the most was that he didn’t just drop me off and leave. He’d wait with me until it was time for me to go into the classroom. This simple gesture of support eased my anxiety and made me feel safe. It’s a memory I still hold close to my heart.

My grandfather’s kindness extended beyond the morning drop-off. When I was in first grade, he would come back to school during recess to surprise me. He’d bring a little container of boiled eggs, and some extra pocket money just in case I wanted to buy something from the school canteen.

Knowing he was there during recess was like a security blanket for me. It gave me confidence, and I never felt alone or anxious at school. I’m so grateful for his thoughtfulness and how he always put my comfort and happiness first.

The memories of those special mornings with my grandparents, where my grandmother’s breakfast and my grandfather’s unwavering support made me feel loved and secure, are etched in my heart forever. These moments were not just about the food they prepared or the rides to school; they were about the love, care, and nurturing that defined my early years. πŸ‘΅πŸ’–πŸ‘΄

As I reflect on these wonderful memories, I can’t help but feel immense gratitude for the love and attention I received from my grandparents. πŸ™ These memories are a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the power of simple, heartfelt gestures. They remind me to cherish the people and moments that make life beautiful. πŸ’–
