What could you try for the first time?
I’d absolutely love to take a dance class with one of my favorite choreographers. Dancing has been a part of my life since childhood, and I even briefly considered making it my career. My grandparents were always incredibly supportive, and I cherish the memories of my Grandpa buying me my first cassette tape when I was dancing to ‘Supersonic’ by J. J. Fad in the ’80s.
In third grade, I choreographed a dance for my class, and we performed it at a school event. This passion stayed with me throughout my school years. Sometimes, I still wish I’d pursued a career in dance.
I’ve always been drawn to hip-hop songs, even though I didn’t know they were called ‘hip-hop’ when I was eight. My grandparents loved seeing me happy and encouraged my love for dancing. ๐ฅฐ They were the coolest! I miss them dearly. ๐ฅบโค๏ธ
There was a group of dancers I admired while growing up, and I tried to imitate their moves. My cousins share my love for dance, and we had a blast dancing to the latest crazes. Remember ‘Electric Youth’ by Debbie Gibson? We grooved to that, as well as ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ by Rick Astley and other ’80s hits. Those ’80s flashbacks make me feel a bit vintage! Ha ha ha! ๐คฃ
To this day, my love for dancing hasn’t faded. I’d jump at the chance to take a class with some of my favorite choreographers: Matt Steffanina, Kyle Hanagami, Bailey Sok, Brian Puspos, and my new favorite, Bada Lee. I binge-watch their videos, and it’s even more enjoyable because my husband and daughter watch with me. My daughter tries to mimic their moves, and when she was just a year old, she was captivated by Matt Steffanina’s choreography. It was incredibly cute, and I’m so glad we captured those moments. ๐
Back in May, Matt Steffanina had a class in New York. My husband loves dancing too, and we considered going. However, it was Mother’s Day weekend, and we decided to spend that time with our daughter. The class was open to all ages, but we hesitated, fearing it might be too crowded and overwhelming for her. We hope he’ll return for another class soon, and by then, our daughter will be a bit older, ready for even more dance fun. ๐
I hope to check this off my bucket list soon. It would be a dream come true, and I know my grandparents would be looking down on me with happiness. ๐ฅบโค๏ธ
