Wanderlust Wednesday: Ward’s Island, A Hidden Gem

We kicked off our day bright and early, making our way to the ferry station. It was a lazy Sunday in downtown Toronto, and it felt like the whole city was still asleep. The sky was all cloudy, and that fall wind had a nice little crisp to it. Luckily, we were all bundled up, so the breeze didn’t bother us too much. When we rolled up to the ferry station, there were a few folks already there, probably as excited as we were. We didn’t wait too long before we hopped on the ferry for our quick 15-20 minute ride over to Ward’s Island.

As we got off the ferry on the island, it felt like the wind was getting stronger. Among the people on the ferry, there were both tourists and locals. Ward’s Island is home to all sorts of folks, like artists, professionals, families, and retirees. And what’s great is that they’re known for being super friendly and helpful to their neighbors.

So, we decided to take a stroll and explore the island on foot. Oh, and here’s the interesting part – no cars allowed! One of the quirks of island living, I guess. Instead, the folks here use bicycles and electric carts to get around, which kind of adds to the whole peaceful, eco-friendly vibe of the place.

We snapped some photos while taking a leisurely stroll around the island. The vibrant fall colors added even more charm to the place. On our way to the beach, we had a delightful encounter with a little furry friend. Our newfound companion approached us and started rubbing against our legs. So sweet. I think our new friend could tell that we’re cat parents. 😻

So, when we got to the beach, no surprise, fellow tourists were there doing their thingβ€”snapping pics of the scenery and taking selfies. 😁 After we had our fun exploring the beach for a while, we decided to mosey on back to the ferry drop-off. You know, to soak in that awesome view of downtown Toronto.

The view of downtown Toronto from Ward’s Island is something special. It’s like a picture-perfect postcard come to life. You get this unique angle on the downtown skyline. The CN Tower, a true giant, stands tall amid all the skyscrapers. People can’t help but snap pics and soak in the peaceful vibes. It’s like a mini getaway from the city while still enjoying its beauty. 😍

Well, that’s a peek into our day on Ward’s Island. It’s a hidden gem right in Toronto’s backyard. From the island life to those stunning city views, it’s a place that leaves an impression. Oh, and speaking of impressions, let’s not forget the surprise wave that left us a little wet on our ferry ride back! Mostly me. 🀣 But that’s what adventures are made of, right? πŸ˜‰ 😁
